In this article we will begin by looking at how, from 1784 onwards, Francisco de Miranda drew inspiration from an Anglo-Saxon fictio personae - Columbia - to create a project that would be adapted to independent Spanish America: Colombeia. This project, which should be seen as utopian, sought to combine the English monarchical model with the classical tradition and the Inca heritage. Secondly, we analyse how Simon Bolivar transformed this fantasy into a concrete republic, founded in 1819: Colombia. The failure of his successive plans - the Andean Federation, the Andean Empire and then the "colossal republic of Colombia" - and the romantic dimension of his political figure gradually relegated the utopia to the rank of an uchrony. Today, it continues to fuel the dream of a great Spanish-American homeland.
